PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has been listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, according to multiple reports Friday.
The 21-year-old center, considered the face of the NHL, sustained the mysterious ailment during the second period of Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Penguins' captain returned for a pair of shifts in the final session before leaving permanently.
There was no word on how Crosby was injured, and the 2006 Hart Trophy winner did not elaborate much on the injury during a postgame interview.
"I had some discomfort," said Crosby, who has three goals and 10 assists in 11 games this season. "I decided that in the third period, it didn't seem like I could do much."
Crosby missed 29 games with a high ankle sprain last season.
