ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The speculation on the status of Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby is over.
Crosby, who two days earlier suffered an undisclosed injury in the second period of Pittsburgh's 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, was in the lineup for his team's contest with the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
The captain was listed as day-to-day with what has been rumored to be either a hip or rib injury, although the Penguins never revealed its true nature. Fox Sports Arizona television broadcasters reported that the 2007 Hart Trophy winner injured his ribs after being hit with a stick by a member of the Coyotes.
Crosby returned for a pair of shifts in the third period Thursday before leaving permanently.
The 21-year-old Crosby, who has three goals and 10 assists in 11 games this season, missed 29 games with a high ankle sprain last campaign.
The Penguins did have a pair of key players out of the lineup Saturday, however, as Ruslan Fedotenko was scratched with an undisclosed injury and Pascal Dupuis was placed on injured reserve with an unknown ailment.
