PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin left Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Wild in the second period after he was struck in the face with the puck.
The talented Russian was bleeding from the mouth after he was hit by the puck off the stick of teammate Rob Scuderi.
Malkin remained on the ice for several moments before getting to his feet and skating off under his own power. The Hart Trophy finalist retreated to the locker room, but returned to the ice to the start the third period.
The 22-year-old is currently riding a 13-game point streak, recording six goals and 21 assists in that span. Malkin has seven goals and a league-high 23 assists in 18 games this season.
The second overall selection in the 2004 draft, Malkin followed his Calder Trophy-winning rookie campaign by scoring 47 goals and 106 points this past season for the reigning Eastern Conference champion Penguins.
