Penguins C Kennedy suspended one game
Feb 2, 2009 - 10:55 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Pittsburgh Penguins center Tyler Kennedy was suspended one game on Monday for his altercation with Toronto defenseman Luke Schenn during Saturday's contest at the Air Canada Centre.During a stoppage in play at 9:36 of the third period, Kennedy was assessed a five-minute major for coming off the bench to fight Schenn following a legal line change.
League rules stipulate that a player can face a suspension if he starts a fight immediately after entering the ice on a line change.
The Leafs asked the NHL to investigate the incident, claiming Kennedy left the Penguins bench to instigate a fight with Schenn after Schenn dropped Evgeni Malkin with a hit.
Kennedy will miss Pittsburgh's game at Montreal on Tuesday. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and based on his average annual salary, he will forfeit $2,912.37.
