Schelotto earns weekly honors
Aug 25, 2008 - 10:33 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Columbus Crew midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto on Monday was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Week.Schelotto recorded one goal and two assists as the Crew (11-6-4) rolled to a 3-0 triumph over Real Salt Lake on Saturday to move into a first-place tie with the New England Revolution (11-6-4) atop the Eastern Conference.
The diminutive Argentine set up Chad Marshall's goal in the 15th minute, delivering a free kick into the penalty area where the 6-4 Marshall headed the ball into the back of the net.
Schelotto doubled the advantage for the Crew in the 25th minute with a penalty-kick goal and tallied his second assist in the 55th minute on Brad Evans' fourth goal of the season.
The 35-year-old has five goals and 14 assists this season after recording five tallies and 10 assists last season.
It is Schelotto's third weekly award this season and the fifth of his career.
