Charles shines as Sun scorch Liberty
Jun 16, 2012 - 1:08 AM Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - Tina Charles poured in a game-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds as the Connecticut Sun dominated the New York Liberty, 97-55, Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.Six different Sun players scored in double-figures, led by Charles. Renee Montgomery scored 14, Mistie Mims chipped in 13, Allison Hightower added 12 and Kara Lawson and Asjha Jones each netted 10 points.
Essence Carson led the way for New York with 14 points, but the Liberty dropped their fourth straight game -- and third in less than a month -- against the Sun.
The Sun shot 60 percent from the field in the first quarter to grab a 30-14 lead after 10 minutes and never looked back.
They outscored New York 31-13 in the second stanza and held a 34-point advantage at the break before coasting to a double-digit victory in the second half.
