St. Johnstone confirmed their place as William Hill Championship winners and earned automatic promotion after beating Scottish Cup Finalists, Dunfermline Athletic. Two second-half goals from Reece McAlear and Ruari Paton was all it took to push Simo Valakari's men over the line and see them return to the William Hill Premiership at the first time of asking.
The Championship title race is as it was after a goalless draw at Firhill. St Johnstone remain eight points clear of hosts Partick Thistle, who have a game in hand.
Alex Samuel's injury-time winner stunned 10-man Morton as Partick Thistle closed the gap at the top of the table to just five points ahead of their clash with league leaders St. Johnstone next week.
League leaders St Johnstone were held to a draw at Stark's Park. Lewis Vaughan's goal was flagged offside for the home side, while neither Josh Fowler nor Sam Stanton could convert a guilt-edged chance for the visitors, who drop yet more points in the Championship title race.
Leon King has rejuvenated his career at Ayr United under Scott Brown. Sam Wardrop went to meet him ahead of the Honest Men's KDM Evolution Trophy clash with St. Johnstone.
Oisin Smyth's 96th-minute penalty stunned the Saints and rescued a point for Partick Thistle to keep them in touching distance of the league leaders.
Simo Valakari's Saints scored four second-half goals to come from 2-0 down against Scott Brown's Ayr United at Somerset Park.
St. Johnstone pair Danny Swanson and Richard Foster clashed at New Douglas Park.
League leaders St. Johnstone came back from a goal down to maintain their unbeaten start to the season thanks to a late winner by William Hill Championship player of the month Josh McPake.
