Blue Bombers WR Stegall announces retirement
Feb 18, 2009 - 11:32 PM WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Ticker) -- Milt Stegall, the Canadian Football League's most decorated wide receiver, announced his retirement Wednesday.The Winnipeg Blue Bombers veteran wideout holds league records in touchdown receptions (144), receiving yards (15,153) as well as career TDs (147). He also holds the league record for most scores in a season (23, in 2002).
"I have enough stored up right now where I can really ride into the sunset and really enjoy and not be sad that it's over, but be happy that I got a chance to go through it," Stegall told TSN of Canada. "It was a great experience and I'll miss it, but I'm not sad it's over.
"I'm happy that I actually got a chance to experience all these things."
Stegall is an eight-time division all-star and a six-time league all-star.
"Milt's career has set so many new standards on and off the field," Winnipeg president Lyle Bauer said. "His professionalism and contribution to the Blue Bombers and the CFL will be very difficult to replace."
