Down four, Dodgers overwhelm D-Backs to win again
Apr 20, 2014 - 3:53 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Ethier clubbed a three-run homer and the Los Angeles Dodgers used a five-run fifth inning to continue their dominance over the Arizona Diamondbacks with an 8-6 win on Saturday.Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp each went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Dodgers, who have beaten Arizona six out of the seven meetings this season. Gonzalez has now hit safely in 14 straight games.
"We got big hits tonight, a lot of hits back-to-back when we needed it," said Kemp. "(Haren) did a great job. He hit his spots and helped offensively too. (Ethier's) home run energized us."
Dan Haren (3-0) earned the win for LA, throwing 7 1/3 innings and allowing five runs -- two earned -- on seven hits with five strikeouts.
"I was trying to attack the strike zone," said Haren. "Everything that could go wrong went wrong in the third but our offense stepped up and got some good at-bats. I was able to get through seven. I was happy to give our bullpen a little rest."
Martin Prado and Paul Goldschmidt each had two RBI for the Diamondbacks, who saw starter Mike Bolsinger (0-1) surrender seven runs -- six earned -- over four-plus innings of work.
Bolsinger, who struck out five, made his first Major League start in the setback. He made his debut in a relief appearance on Monday.
With runners at the corners and one out in the top of the third, Gerardo Parra reached on a missed catch error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez. Mark Trumbo scored on the play and Goldschmidt singled brought in two with a bases-loaded single two batters later.
Miguel Montero followed with an RBI double that staked the Diamondbacks to a 4-0 cushion after three innings.
The Dodgers got on the board courtesy of a three-run homer from Ethier in the bottom of the fourth and they scored five in the next inning to take control of the contest.
Haren, Dee Gordon and Carl Crawford all singled to open up the home half of the fifth. Ramirez then reached on a fielding error by Prado that plated Haren and ended Bolsinger's night.
Gonzalez greeted Oliver Perez with a two-run single and Kemp followed with a two-run double with the Dodgers holding an 8-4 lead through five.
"We played a pretty good game," said Prado. "But they got that big inning. We battled back but it was too late."
Prado sliced into the lead with a double in the top of the eighth that scored Goldschmidt and Montero.
Kenley Jansen allowed one baserunner in the ninth before striking out Goldschmidt to earn his sixth save of the season.
