Kemp powers Dodgers past Cubs

Sep 22, 2014 - 1:46 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Kemp homered and drove in four runs and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs, 8-5, in the finale of a four- game series.

Kemp finished with four hits to lead Los Angeles, which took three of four in this series to finish a 10-game road trip at 6-4. Yasiel Puig scored four runs.

"We just got to take care of business," Kemp said.

Jamey Wright was lifted after allowing a run on three hits and two walks in two innings. Carlos Frias pitched the next three innings and gave up three runs, and Chris Perez (1-3) struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season.

Chicago starter Jacob Turner (5-11) was roughed up for five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in five innings of work. Welington Castillo homered in the setback.

"We fell behind early a few games and we keep coming back and fighting," said Cubs manager Rick Renteria.

Puig singled with one out in the first and Adrian Gonzalez quickly put the Dodgers on the scoreboard with an RBI double. Gonzalez advanced on Kemp's flyout to right, and Hanley Ramirez made it 2-0 with another RBI double.

Chris Coghlan cut into the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, but Kemp's two-run blast in the third made it 4-1.

Arismendy Alcantara doubled in Luis Valbuena in the home third to make it 4-2. He was stranded when Chris Valaika struck out swinging to end the inning.

Puig struck out in the fifth but reached first base on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Puig stole second and Kemp singled to left to score him.

Frias walked Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo to start the fifth and both runners scored. Valbuena drove in Baez with a single to right and a wild pitch allowed Rizzo to take home.

Scott Van Slyke's pinch-hit double with two outs in the sixth plated Juan Uribe for a 6-4 Dodgers lead, and Kemp again drove in Puig in the seventh with an RBI single.

Castillo's homer in the eighth made it 7-5, and Uribe's RBI single in the ninth rounded out the scoring, as Kenley Jansen pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth to secure his 43rd save.
