Giants use 6-run 7th to rally past Rockies

Sep 3, 2014 - 6:01 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Gregor Blanco hit a go-ahead RBI double as part of a six-run seventh inning as the San Francisco Giants rallied for a 12- 7 win over the Colorado Rockies in the middle test of a three-game set.

Buster Posey smacked a solo homer among his three hits, four RBI and three runs scored, while Andrew Susac cracked a two-run shot to highlight his two- hit night to go with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Blanco finished with three hits and two runs scored for San Francisco, which has won seven of its last eight games.

"That's the beauty of this park. It's easier to come back here than anywhere else," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

George Kontos (4-0) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings to notch the win.

Corey Dickerson was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored, D.J. LeMahieu clubbed a two-run blast and Drew Stubbs tallied two hits and three runs scored for the Rockies, who have dropped six of their last eight games.

The Rockies led 7-1 before the Giants plated three in the sixth, six in the seventh and two more in the eighth to surge ahead.

Posey launched a leadoff shot into the seats in left to lead off the sixth. Hunter Pence hit a one-out single and Susac cracked an 0-2 slider deep into the patrons in left for his two-run shot two batters later.

Angel Pagan worked a walk to start the seventh and Joe Panik doubled. Matt Belisle (4-7) came on for starter Jordan Lyles and served up Posey's double into the gap in right-center to bring home Pagan and Panik.

"I was trying to squeeze one more inning out of him. He was starting to tire in that seventh," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Lyles.

Pence's single scored Posey before Blanco put the Giants in front with a slicing double to left, pushing across Pence. Blanco scored on Susac's double and Brandon Crawford's triple plated Susac for a 10-7 Giants cushion.

Posey had another RBI double in the eighth and later scored when Stubbs dropped Pence's fly ball to center, making it a 12-7 game.

Earlier, Dickerson's two-run double in the first opened the scoring. Josh Rutledge's two-run double and LeMahieu's two-run blast in the third gave Colorado a 6-0 lead.

Pinch-hitter Adam Duvall's single got San Francisco on the board in the fifth before Colorado got the run back in the home half on Dickerson's run-scoring base hit.

Pence extended his hitting streak to 15 games ... Posey's homer was his 19th of the year ... Giants starter Yusmeiro Petit allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings ... SF was 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position, while Colorado finished 5-for-15.
