Beltre's walk-off HR deals loss to Oakland

Sep 26, 2014 - 6:16 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Adrian Beltre's home run in the ninth inning gave the Texas Rangers a 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a four-game series.

Beltre stepped up to the plate with one out against Luke Gregerson (5-5) and drove the second pitch he saw over the right field wall for his 19th home run of the season and the win.

"I was looking for a pitch up in the zone that I could focus in on," Beltre said. "He hung a slider and I was able to put a good swing on it."

Elvis Andrus drove in the other run for the Rangers, who have won 12 of their last 13 games. Colby Lewis pitched seven innings and gave up a run on six hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Neftali Feliz (2-1) picked up the win for tossing a scoreless ninth.

Jason Hammel went six-plus innings and let up a run on six hits while Geovany Soto drove in the lone run for the Athletics, who have lost three straight.

Oakland fell a game back of Kansas City for the top wild card spot in the American League.

The Athletics pushed a run across in the sixth inning as Brandon Moss walked to lead off, moved to third on a Jed Lowrie single and came home on a Soto sac fly for a 1-0 lead.

"Tonight wasn't a very good game," said Moss. "Flush it down the toilet, come out tomorrow and try to win tomorrow. Just have to move on from games like that."

Texas, though, answered in the home half as Leonys Martin reached on a bunt, stole second and came home on an Andrus single to tie the game.
