Dodgers edge D-backs in 13

May 4, 2015 - 2:34 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yasmani Grandal clubbed a leadoff home run in the 13th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 win and three- game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

With Evan Marshall (0-2) on the mound, Grandal crushed a 1-1 fastball over the wall in center field for the win.

"I looked for a fastball and he gave me one. I had a good swing," Grandal said.

In the top of the 13th, the Diamondbacks had runners at first and third, the first time a runner had reached third all game. A pitch from J.P. Howell (1-1) got away from Grandal. Jordan Pacheco came home, but Grandal was able to recover and toss the ball to Howell, who brought his glove behind the back to tag out Pacheco.

"I had a good jump, I took a chance. J.P. did a good job of covering the plate," Pacheco said.

Los Angeles has won four straight, while Arizona has dropped seven of its last nine.

Both starters were effective as Chase Anderson gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings for Arizona, and Brett Anderson also went six innings for Los Angeles and allowed five hits while striking out four.

The only time either team had more than one hit in an inning through the first nine was in the top of the fourth when Arizona got singles from Ender Inciarte and Paul Goldschmidt. Prior to Goldschmidt's single, though, A.J. Pollock had grounded into a double play.

Adrian Gonzalez singled with two outs in the Los Angeles fourth and moved to second on a wild pitch, but Alex Guerrero looked at strike three to end the frame.

Howie Kendrick launched a pitch to right-center with one out in the bottom of the ninth and tried to stretch it into a triple, but he was thrown out and the game went to extra innings.

Goldschmidt doubled to start the 10th, but Sergio Santos struck out the next two batters before walking Chris Owings. Paco Rodriguez then took the hill and got Jordan Pacheco to groundout softly to second to end the frame.
