Rockies pound Brewers to take series
Jun 22, 2015 - 1:59 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Charlie Blackmon had two hits, four RBI and a run scored as the Colorado Rockies defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 10-4 in the rubber match of a three-game set.Troy Tulowitzki posted a pair of hits and three RBI and Nolan Arenado smacked a solo homer for Colorado, which won the last two of the series on the heels of a five-game losing streak.
Chris Rusin (3-2) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings to get the win.
Gerardo Parra had two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Brewers. Matt Garza (4-9) surrendered 10 runs -- seven earned -- on 13 hits over 5 1/3 frames to absorb the loss.
"He made pitches in, broke a lot of bats and they fell over the infielders head or in front of the outfielders," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Garza.
Milwaukee cut its deficit to 3-2 after Ryan Braun led off the fourth with a triple and later came home on an Aramis Ramirez groundout.
Colorado, though, pushed three more runs across in the fourth. Arenado's leadoff shot and Blackmon's two-run single extended the margin to 6-2.
Jonathan Lucroy's RBI double in the sixth trimmed the gap in half, but the Rockies answered with four runs in the home portion.
Nick Hundley's RBI double, Blackmon's run-scoring single and Tulowitzki's two- run single upped the advantage to 10-3.
Ryan Braun's RBI double in the eighth capped the scoring.
"It's a good series win," Hundley said. "We haven't played the last couple of weeks as well as we think we can."
Hernan Perez's RBI single in the second began the scoring for the Brewers, but the Rockies went ahead in the third after an RBI groundout from Charlie Blackmon and run-scoring singles by D.J. LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki made it 3-1.
