Price earns 100th career win, Bautista HR, Blue Jays top O's

Sep 5, 2015 - 9:41 PM TORONTO (AP) David Price brushed Baltimore aside to reach the century mark in career wins.

Price pitched seven innings to earn his 100th victory, Jose Bautista hit his 32nd home run of the season and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Orioles 5-1 on Saturday.

''That's awesome,'' Price said of reaching the milestone. ''It took parts of seven seasons to get here. There's been a lot of good games and I'm pumped with every one I get.''

The AL East-leading Blue Jays bounced back from a 10-2 loss to Baltimore on Friday night. Toronto hasn't dropped two in a row since Aug. 14-15 against the Yankees.

''We know we don't need to score 10 runs to win a game,'' Bautista said. ''It's a lot easier when you have that trust in whoever is on the mound that they're going to do a pretty good job and give you a chance to win.''

Toronto pushed its lead in the East back to 1 1-2 games after Tampa Bay beat the Yankees 3-2.

The slumping Orioles lost for the 13th time in 16 games.

Price (14-5) allowed one run and three hits. He's 5-1 with a 2.15 ERA since joining Toronto in a July 30 trade with Detroit, and 100-56 overall.

''He was great,'' manager John Gibbons said. ''At the end of the day, that's why he's here.''

Bautista hit a solo home run off Mike Wright (2-4) in the first and made it 2-0 with an RBI double in the third.

Baltimore slugger Chris Davis, who had hit five home runs in his previous three games, went 1 for 3 with a walk and struck out twice.

Ben Revere's single gave Toronto another run in the fourth, and the Blue Jays added two more against reliever Jason Garcia in the fifth. Russell Martin's groundout drove in a run and Ryan Goins followed with an RBI double.

Price surrendered an RBI single to Caleb Joseph in the seventh but struck out Junior Lake and Paul Janish to strand runners at first and second.

The left-hander walked four, matching a season high, and struck out eight.

Wright made his first big league start since June 19, when he allowed four runs and walked four in 1 1-3 innings in a 5-4 loss at Toronto.

''I thought he was better than the last time here,'' Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. ''He's pitched some good games for us. I love the way he attacked the strike zone.''

Working on three days' rest, Wright gave up three runs and seven hits in four innings.

''I found myself in a lot of tough situations but I felt like I did a good job of minimizing it,'' Wright said.

ORIOLES TO ADD REIMOLD

Baltimore is expected to add OF Nolan Reimold to its roster before Sunday's game. Reimold was in the clubhouse following the game, having traveled to Toronto from Triple-A Norfolk.

Home plate umpire Tim Timmons ejected Blue Jays INF Cliff Pennington for arguing from the Blue Jays dugout after Bautista struck out to end the sixth. The strike two call in Bautista's at-bat came on a check swing on a pitch that was up and in, with first base umpire Mike Everitt confirming the swing.

STREAK CONTINUES, WITH A BRUISE

Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion was hit on the left elbow by a pitch in the third and has now reached base in 35 consecutive games.

Orioles: C Matt Wieters was not available after jamming his left wrist covering first base Friday. X-rays were negative and Wieters hopes to return Sunday. ... SS J.J. Hardy (left groin) took batting practice before the game and remains on track to be activated off the DL before Tuesday's game at New York against the Yankees.

UP NEXT

Orioles: RHP Chris Tillman (9-10, 4.87 ERA) starts Sunday's series finale. Tillman is 0-3 with a 15.00 ERA in four starts against the Blue Jays this season.

Blue Jays: RHP Marco Estrada (11-8, 3.16 ERA) will move up a day to pitch in place of LHP Mark Buehrle, who's being pushed back to Monday afternoon's game at Fenway Park in Boston. Buehrle will get six days of rest after complaining of fatigue following his most recent start. Estrada will be on regular rest because of Thursday's day off.
