Phils' Pettibone seeks to get on track vs. Rockies
Jun 15, 2013 - 2:19 PM (Sports Network) - Jonathan Pettibone was 3-0 over the first five starts of his major league career, but it seems hitters are starting to figure out the 2008 third-round draft pick.Pettibone heads back to the mound Saturday afternoon for the Philadelphia Phillies in the continuation of their three-game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
On Sunday, Pettibone surrendered four hits and six runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings of a 9-1 loss at Milwaukee. The defeat put Pettibone at 0-2 over his last five starts and he hasn't won since May 14 against Cleveland.
The Rockies will counter with Tyler Chatwood, who is also coming off a loss June 3 at Cincinnati. The 23-year-old right-hander missed a start with inflammation in his right triceps.
Colorado is 2 1/2 games out of first place, but suffered a big blow to its lineup on Friday. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was put on the 15-day disabled list with a rib fracture on his right side.
Tulowitzki is expected to miss the next 4-to-6 weeks after suffering the injury while diving for a grounder in the eighth inning of Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals.
The standout shortstop went 1-for-3 with a run scored before the injury and is hitting .347 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI through 61 games this season.
Last night, Freddy Galvis hit a pair of two-run triples to lead the Phillies in an 8-7 victory. Humberto Quintero drove in a pair of runs, while Galvis, John Mayberry and Kevin Frandsen each scored twice for the Phillies, who have won their past two games on the heels of dropping five straight.
"It was a good comeback for us. We played sloppy at first, but we hung in there, and came back and won the game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.
Kyle Kendrick had a rough outing as he was charged with seven runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Michael Stutes (2-0) pitched a scoreless sixth inning to get the win.
Carlos Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and scored twice for the Rockies, who have dropped three straight. Juan Nicasio gave up five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings and also had a two-run single.
"I don't think he ran out of gas, he's a hard worker. I think he tried too hard and tried to be too nasty in his last inning. Next thing you know he's getting behind in the count and you have to throw a strike and the guys hit him," said Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba.
The Phillies and Rockies are meeting for the first time since Philadelphia won seven of nine matchups a season ago. The Phils are riding a six-game winning streak in this series.
