Hamels tries to secure another win in finale with Rockies
Jun 16, 2013 - 1:58 PM (Sports Network) - After losing six straight starts, Philadelphia Phillies lefty Cole Hamels has seemed to find his groove.Hamels aims for his third win of the season Sunday in the conclusion of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He fanned 11 over seven innings in a win against Miami on June 5 and followed that up six days later by allowing two runs over six frames in a no-decision at Minnesota.
Hamels is 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA in six games when facing the Rockies.
Colorado's Jhoulys Chacin, a 23-year-old right-hander, is unbeaten in his last five starts (1-0) and is coming off a victory against the Nationals on Tuesday. Chacin, whose last loss came May 16 versus the Giants, is 1-0 with a 1.21 ERA in five games (3 starts) against the Phillies.
The Rockies evened this series with a 10-5 win yesterday. Tyler Colvin hit a two-run home run as part of a six-run first inning.
Wilin Rosario went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored while Nolan Arenado added three hits and two RBI for the Rockies, who snapped a three-game skid. Tyler Chatwood (4-1) pitched five innings and gave up two runs on seven hits while also hitting an RBI single in the win.
"It was nice to see our offense keep going and keep adding on to the lead," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "It was important for us to put that game away like we did."
John Mayberry stroked a two-run home run and Ben Revere went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Phillies, who have lost six of eight. Jonathan Pettibone (3-3) dropped his third straight decision as he gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on 10 hits over just three innings of work.
"In that first inning I really didn't make any of those pitches," Pettibone said. "If I make those pitches, maybe it's a different story."
The Phillies and Rockies are meeting for the first time since Philadelphia won seven of nine matchups a season ago. The Phils had won six in a row in this series until yesterday.
