Marlins seek road series win over Mets

Apr 27, 2014 - 1:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Right-hander Tom Koehler can pitch the Miami Marlins to their first road series win of the season on Sunday afternoon when they return to Citi Field to close out a three-game weekend set with the New York Mets.

Miami tied for the worst road record in the majors last season - winning just 26 games - and had opened this season with just one road victory in its first 10 games as a visitor.

The Marlins picked up win No. 2 on Saturday night when Jarrod Saltalamacchia slugged a tie-breaking home run in the top of the 10th inning to send Miami to a 7-6 victory.

Kyle Farnsworth (0-1) replaced Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mound to start the 10th and was greeted by Saltalamacchia, who drove a 2-2 fastball over the wall in left-center field to break the 6-6 stalemate. Steve Cishek bounced back from Friday's blown save by spinning a scoreless bottom of the 10th to secure his fifth save of the season.

Cishek had converted a club-record 33 straight save opportunities prior to giving up a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning Friday.

Mike Dunn (2-3) struck out four over two perfect innings of relief work to pick up the victory.

Giancarlo Stanton smacked a two-run homer to spark Miami's five-run sixth inning, while Casey McGehee collected three hits and two runs scored to help the Marlins snap a two-game skid.

Bobby Abreu belted a two-run blast and Lucas Duda added a two-run single for the Mets, who had won three straight.

Koehler, a native of the Bronx, has gotten 18 runs of support in two home victories this season, but just two runs in his other two starts - both away from home - that the Marlins lost.

He's held opposing batters to a .198 average.

Koehler blanked the Mets for eight innings on three hits in a Sept. 15 win at Citi Field last September.

New York replies with righty Dillon Gee, who allowed two runs in six innings while dropping a 3-0 decision to St. Louis in his most recent outing on Tuesday.

"I was happy with the way I limited the damage," Gee said. "That could have gotten pretty ugly, and in the past it has. I think it was a big step for me."

Gee is 2-0 in four lifetime starts against Miami with a 3.09 earned run average.

He struck out 14 batters in 13 1/3 innings in two home starts against the Marlins in 2013.

Miami won 11 of its 19 matchups with the Mets last season.
