Mets hope for some more dramatics vs. Brewers
Jul 26, 2014 - 12:48 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - If nothing else, the New York Mets have dramatics going for them.Winners in Friday night's opener after a three-run rally in the ninth inning, the Mets will face one of their recent pitching nemeses on Saturday night when they return to Miller Park for the third test of a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
First baseman Lucas Duda finished off Friday's 3-2 win with a two-run home run off Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez and has three home runs in his last four hits over four games.
"It was a pretty special moment," Duda said. "I am glad I was able to help pick up the team and get this win."
Duda has five extra-base hits and six runs batted in across five career games in Milwaukee, but is hitless in four at-bats against Brewers starter Wily Peralta, who'll get the call Saturday.
Peralta has won his last two starts to get to 11 wins on the year, which ties his career-best number. In his last 14 innings, he's allowed a single earned run on six hits.
In two career starts against the Mets -- one at home, one on the road -- he's won twice while surrendering one run in 14 1/3 innings.
Replying for the Mets is lefty Jonathon Niese, who spent time on the disabled list with a strained shoulder and returned to get nicked for 11 hits and four runs in six innings of a 5-2 loss at Seattle on Monday.
He's had a recent body of success against the Brewers, though, going 2-0 with a 1.98 earned run average against them in his last four starts. In one meeting this year, he tossed 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball and got a no-decision in a game the Mets ultimately lost, 5-1, on June 12.
On Friday, Milwaukee carried a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning thanks to 7 2/3 scoreless innings by Yovani Gallardo, but Rodriguez (4-4) failed to record an out before the Mets went in front.
Daniel Murphy doubled to left to start the frame and David Wright singled to make it 2-1. Duda followed with a no-doubter over the wall in right.
Jenrry Mejia struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 14th save.
Gallardo is now winless in his last six starts despite striking out eight and yielding just four hits during his stint.
Zack Wheeler also pitched well despite not factoring into the decision. The young righty fanned nine in 6 2/3 frame, surrendering two runs -- one earned -- on three hits.
Murphy had three hits for the Mets, who have won three of four.
