Dodgers seek to extend domination of Mets

Aug 24, 2014 - 2:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers look to extend their recent domination of the New York Mets on Sunday night when they go for a three-game sweep at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers have won 13 of their past 15 versus the Mets and saw Adrian Gonzalez homer and drive in five runs in last night's 7-4 win. Scott Van Slyke and Erisbel Arruebarrena also drove in a run each in Los Angeles' third straight win.

"It was a good win for us tonight," said Gonzalez. "Baseball is about scoring runs and I try to do my best to drive runs in."

Zack Greinke earned the win after giving up four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits with four strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Juan Lagares supplied a three-run blast and Lucas Duda also homered for the Mets, who lost their sixth consecutive game in Los Angeles.

Starter Jacob deGrom, who was activated from the disabled list prior to the game, allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while fanning seven across six frames.

"I was very impressed with Jacob," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He had amazing stuff. The time he got hurt was on a couple of mistakes to Adrian."

The Mets will try to salvage the finale behind Bartolo Colon, who makes his first start since Aug.13.

Colon was a late scratch from his start on Monday as he flew back to the Dominican Republic to be with his ill mother, who passed away later in the week.

The 41-year-old righty was coming off his 200th career win when he faced Washington in his most recent start and took a loss despite allowing just two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Colon is 11-10 with a 3.85 earned run average this year and 1-4 lifetime versus the Dodgers with a 6.61 ERA in five meetings.

Kevin Correia will make his third start with the Dodgers and it comes on his 34th birthday.

Correia was acquired from the Minnesota Twins and won his Los Angeles debut on Aug. 11 with six innings of one-run ball versus Atlanta. He then beat the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, but did yield four runs -- three in the first inning -- on eight hits over five frames.

"It was a rough start for Kevin, but he settled down and kept us in the game," Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said.

The right-hander was 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA this year before the trade and is 2-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 13 lifetime meetings with the Mets, including seven starts.
