Hill, D-backs top Rockies
Sep 1, 2014 - 1:41 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Hill went 3-for-4, finishing a homer shy of the cycle, with two RBI and two runs scored as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies, 6-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set.Nolan Reimold hit his first homer as a member of the D-backs, while Mark Trumbo and Jordan Pacheco each knocked in a run.
Chase Anderson (8-6) got the win after tossing six innings of one-run ball with a career high-tying eight strikeouts.
"He was fresh. He had seven days of rest," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said of Anderson. "He had more life in his arm. Our starters this series were outstanding."
Jorge De La Rosa (13-10) took the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits over six-plus innings of work.
Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run and Charlie Culberson added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to account for Colorado's offense.
Hill started his day with an RBI single that brought home Ender Inciarte, who walked to begin the game, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.
In the third, Hill's triple led to another run as Pacheco knocked a base hit to right two batters later for a 2-0 lead.
Blackmon led off the away fourth with his 17th homer of the season that cut the deficit in half.
The game stayed that way until the seventh, when Arizona stretched its margin with a four-run seventh. Didi Gregorius opened the inning with a walk and scored on pinch-hitting Reimold's long drive to left.
Inciarte doubled, then scored on Hill's two-base hit to right. Trumbo followed with an RBI single up the middle for a 6-1 lead.
"Obviously, it's a big blow with the four-run inning that they put up," Colorado catcher Jackson Williams said. "It's easy for you to just roll over and say, 'There's another loss in the L column.' But we did a great job coming back."
Colorado put a pair of runners in scoring position in the ninth when Culberson ripped a line drive to center that was snared by a diving Inciarte for the second out. Corey Dickerson scored on the play, then Williams grounded out to end it.
Game Notes
Colorado, which won on Saturday, was looking for back-to-back road wins for the first time since sweeping the Giants from June 13-15 ... The Rockies have lost five of six overall ... Anderson has won all three starts in his career against Colorado.
