Dodgers go after fourth consecutive win in Colorado
Sep 16, 2014 - 2:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers' offense is clicking on all cylinders and the club aims for a fourth straight victory on Tuesday night in the middle contest of a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers have plated 32 runs over their last three victories and posted an 11-3 rout of the Rockies in Monday's opener. Adrian Gonzalez drove in three runs, Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer and Justin Turner plated a pair of runners with a double.
Kemp put the Dodgers up early with a homer in the first inning, his 21st of the season, and he has gone deep 29 times and driven in 100 runs in 123 games versus the Rockies.
"Some guys just do well against other teams. I guess they are just one of those teams (for me). I do enjoy hitting here," said Kemp, a lifetime .325 hitter at Colorado's Coors Field.
Los Angeles has won eight of its last 10 games and is four games up on second- place San Francisco in the National League West.
Wilin Rosario homered, while Michael Cuddyer and Corey Dickerson each supplied an RBI in Colorado's seventh straight loss. Christian Bergman was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits across five-plus frames.
"We haven't been playing well right now," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Obviously, the sixth got away from us."
The Dodgers have won two straight and five of Dan Haren's last seven starts, and he gets the ball Tuesday. Haren threw seven scoreless innings of four-hit ball in Wednesday's 4-0 win over San Diego to improve his record to 13-10 and lower his ERA to 3.99.
Haren, who is 5-1 in his past six decisions, has a 6-6 record in 15 road starts and will face Colorado for the 18th time in his career. Through the first 17 starts, Haren is 7-8 with a 5.00 ERA.
Tyler Matzek will handle pitching duties for the Rockies Tuesday and he has struggled to a 5-10 record and 4.23 ERA this season. Matzek had won three straight starts until a 2-0 loss to the New York Mets last Wednesday, charged with both runs in 6 1/3 innings.
Matzek is 3-4 in seven home starts and lost his only career appearance to Los Angeles on June 16 in a 6-1 defeat at Dodger Stadium. Matzek, a left-hander, was reached for three runs and 10 hits in five innings.
Los Angeles is 10-4 against Colorado this season with a 6-2 record as the guest.
