Blue Jays top Orioles in high-scoring rubber match
Apr 12, 2015 - 9:12 PM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Reyes had three hits, eight Toronto starters scored at least one run and the Blue Jays outlasted the Baltimore Orioles 10-7 in the rubber match of a three-game set.Dalton Pompey hit his first career home run for the Blue Jays, while Kevin Pillar added a home run and made two tremendous diving catches in left field. Jose Bautista also went deep in the win.
Adam Jones and Travis Snider each homered and drove in three for Baltimore.
Drew Hutchison (2-0) and Chris Tillman (1-1) gave up one run each in opening- day wins, but both were lit up for seven runs on Sunday. Hutchison struck out five in 4 1/3 innings for Toronto, while Tillman was yanked with two outs in the third inning. Four of Tillman's seven runs were unearned.
Pompey put Toronto on the board in the first inning with his two-run homer to right. Jones answered in the bottom half with a two-run shot of his own.
The Blue Jays went back in front on Pillar's solo homer in the second, and they built on that lead in the top of the third.
Tillman unraveled in the frame, walking the bases loaded before Devon Travis cleared them with his liner to right. Snider was charged with an error on the play for misplaying the ball, which flew just over his glove to the wall.
After Tillman was replaced by Kevin Gausman, Reyes singled in Travis to make it 7-2.
Chris Davis and Jones smacked RBI singles in the bottom of the frame to get Baltimore within three, and after Dioner Navarro's sacrifice fly in the fourth made it 8-4, Snider made things interesting by crushing a three-run homer to center.
Baltimore went down in order each of the next two innings, and Bautista plated two insurance runs with his two-run dinger off Darren O'Day in the eighth.
Miguel Castro pitched around a leadoff walk and a one-out single from Alejandro De Aza to record his second career save.
