Bauer eyes another win over ChiSox
Apr 20, 2015 - 11:18 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Bauer goes after his third win of the season on Monday when the Cleveland Indians open a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.Bauer tossed six no-hit innings to win his first start, then surrendered four hits and a pair of runs over six innings to beat the White Sox on Wednesday. He also struck out eight in that one and has fanned 19 in 12 innings this season.
"He's got good stuff," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "He has all the pitches. I'm most impressed by the fact he's not giving up runs."
Cleveland comes into this one reeling a bit after losing two of three to the Minnesota Twins, including a 7-2 setback on Sunday. Carlos Santana hit a solo homer in the ninth for the Indians, who fell to 4-7 on the young season.
T.J. House (0-2) gave up five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
"I just couldn't catch my groove and carry it with me throughout the start," House said. "One inning I'd feel great and the next one I was all over the place. That was disappointing."
Chicago also dropped two of three this weekend to Detroit, culminating with a 9-1 loss to the Tigers on Sunday.
Jose Quintana (1-1) allowed nine runs on 10 hits in four-plus innings for Chicago.
"You just chalk it up to a bad day for him," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said about Quintana.
Getting the call for the White Sox on Monday will be the same pitcher who opposed Bauer five days ago, lefty John Danks, who has lost both of his starts and has pitched to a 6.97 ERA.
The Indians reached him for four runs (3 earned) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings last Wednesday.
For his career he is 5-12 against the Tribe with a 5.19 ERA in 23 starts.
Chicago's bullpen could get a boost on Monday, as left-hander Carlos Rodon, the third overall pick in last year's draft, is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.
These teams split a two-game set earlier last week, but Cleveland took 10 of 19 from the White Sox a season ago.
