Orioles, Blue Jays play rubber match at Camden Yards
May 13, 2015 - 1:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays hope to keep the bats gong when they play the rubber match of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday at Camden Yards. After losing the opener of this series, 5-2, on Monday, the Blue Jays responded with a 10-2 victory Tuesday night.
Edwin Encarnacion homered twice to drive in three runs, Josh Donaldson also homered and knocked in three runs and Ryan Goins had three of Toronto's 13 hits.
"That's a good sign," Jays manager John Gibbons said of Encarnacion's two shots. "That means he's staying on the baseball."
Mark Buehrle was effective in six innings to earn his third win against Baltimore this season. The veteran left-hander allowed two runs on four hits and one walk and had four strikeouts.
The Jays turn to Aaron Sanchez Wednesday and the young right-hander aims to keep his unbeaten streak intact. Sanchez has a 3-0 mark to go along with a 2.66 earned run average in his last four starts and Toronto is 3-1 in that span.
Sanchez is coming off his best outing of the season in a 7-0 win over Boston and tossed seven shutout innings of two-hit ball. He did walk five batters and has issued 11 free passes the last two starts.
In five career meetings (2 starts) with the Orioles, Sanchez is 1-1 with a 4.73 ERA.
Manny Machado had three of Baltimore's five hits and Chris Tillman took the loss after giving up five runs, nine hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings.
"We are just making too many errors, plain and simple," Machado said.
The Orioles have alternated results the past five games.
Miguel Gonzalez will try to pitch himself back into the win column for the Orioles Wednesday and was 3-0 in four starts before losing at Yankee Stadium on Friday. Gonzalez was touched for a season-high five runs in a season-low four innings of a 5-4 loss.
Gonzalez, who threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings on May 2 versus Tampa Bay, has enjoyed success against the Blue Jays in his career. He is 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 11 games (10 starts).
Baltimore is only 2-6 against Toronto this season.
