A's shoot for fourth straight win

May 26, 2015 - 11:19 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics shoot for a fourth straight win on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at the Coliseum.

Jesse Hahn's first career shutout spurred Oakland to its longest win streak of the season after the Athletics downed Detroit, 4-0, in Monday's opener.

Hahn (2-4) yielded a mere four hits and one walk to halt a five-start winless stretch and carry the A's to a third consecutive triumph. The young right- hander kept Detroit's bats silent by recording 15 ground-ball outs, six of which came on three double plays.

Oakland hadn't won three in a row since August 7-9 of last season.

The A's got all their runs during a sixth-inning outburst against Shane Greene highlighted by RBI doubles from Max Muncy and Sam Fuld. Billy Butler added a run-scoring single while finishing 2-for-4.

Greene (4-3) didn't make it out of the sixth, with five of his eight hits allowed coming during the pivotal frame.

With star slugger Miguel Cabrera out of the lineup for rest purposes, Detroit didn't register an extra-base hit en route to a third straight loss.

"When we need a big inning offensively or defensively, it goes in the opposite direction," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "It's frustrating."

Heading to the hill for Detroit on Tuesday will be left-hander David Price, who is 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA. Price did not get a decision on Thursday against Houston, but pitched well, as he surrendered three runs (2 earned) in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out a season-high 12 batters in his team's 6-5 win.

Detroit has won all but one of Price's nine starts this season.

Price has faced the A's six times and is 3-2 with a 2.89 ERA.

Oakland, meanwhile, will hand the ball to righty Jesse Chavez, who has alternated between the bullpen and starting rotation this season, but is 1-4 with a 3.41 ERA in six starts.

Chavez absorbed the loss on Thursday against Tampa Bay, as the Rays reached him for three runs and five hits in six innings.

The 31-year-old hurler is 0-3 in nine games (2 starts) versus the Tigers and has pitched to a 9.90 ERA.

Detroit won five of its seven matchups with the A's last season.
