Seager's 2 HRs, 6 RBI lead M's past Rays in 10

May 27, 2015 - 4:49 AM St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Seager put the Mariners ahead with a grand slam in the eighth inning, then homered in the 10th to give Seattle a wild 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Seager went 3-for-5 with a career-high six RBI, including a solo blast to straightaway center off Brad Boxberger (2-2) in the deciding frame.

The homer was only needed after Fernando Rodney blew a three-run lead in the ninth, but the Mariners nevertheless won for the fourth time in five games. They will try for a three-game sweep when they wrap up their nine-game road trip on Wednesday.

The Rays were trying to break a three-game slide and were leading 3-2 before the game turned on its head in the eighth.

Nick Franklin booted a potential double-play ball to load the bases, and Jake McGee served up Seager's second career grand slam. The blast ended the longest streak in Mariners history without a grand slam, the previous coming on Sept. 28, 2013, and also took J.A. Happ off the hook for the loss.

"As hard as he throws...I was just trying to get a ball in the air," Seager said of his grand slam.

Rodney (2-2) put the first three Rays on in the ninth and was a foot away from giving up a game-winning grand slam to Evan Longoria. The ball landed on the yellow strip atop the left-field wall, and Longoria settled for a two-run double to bring the Rays within 6-5.

After recording an out, Rodney intentionally filled the bags and got Jake Elmore to roll one over to third base. Seager got the force out at second, but Robinson Cano's nonchalant throw was wide of first, and Elmore was credited with his fourth RBI of the night.

"We've come back throughout the course of the year. It's not even surprising anymore how we bounce back," Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

Rodney retired Kevin Kiermaier to leave the winning run at third, and Joe Beimel threw a perfect 10th to earn his first save since 2009.

Rays starter Alex Colome shook off a 38-pitch first inning and was in line for the win after allowing two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The first three Mariners all singled, with Austin Jackson, fresh off the disabled list, scoring on Seth Smith's single. Smith later scored on a bang- bang play at the plate when Seager hit a dribbler to the left side that Colome barehanded and narrowly missed nabbing Smith at home.

It was the third straight day the Rays trailed before recording an out, but this time they answered back on Elmore's two-run single in the bottom half.

Elmore came up again with two down in the third and drove in Tim Beckham, who stole second prior to the go-ahead hit.
