Dodgers, Rockies set for DH at Coors

Jun 2, 2015 - 12:16 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Zack Greinke eyes his first win in close to a month on Tuesday when he takes the ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of a doubleheader with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Greinke had won his first five decisions, but is 0-1 in four starts since, despite having allowed four runs in that span. Greinke was terrific in a no- decision on Wednesday against Atlanta, as he allowed a run and three hits and struck out nine in six innings of his team's 3-2 loss.

"In the first six or eight games, we were getting 10 runs per game," Greinke said. "You can't spread (runs) out perfectly. I'm sure [the rut] won't last forever."

Greinke, whose 1.48 is second in NL only to A.J. Burnett, has now earned a quality start in all 10 of his outings this season, and he has allowed one run or fewer in eight of 10 starts this season.

"Zack has been terrific for the past couple of years," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Clayton has overshadowed a lot of things Zack's been able to do. This season, Zack's been really, really good. But he doesn't get the attention."

First, though, the Dodgers will give the ball to righty Juan Nicasio, who pitched the first four years of his career with the Rockies. This will be his first start for the Dodgers, but he has pitched 16 times out of the bullpen, going 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA.

Getting the call for the Rockies in the first game will be lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who is 1-2 with a 6.51 ERA and hasn't pitched since May 21 because of a cut on his hand. De La Rosa was scratched over the weekend with a cut finger on his hand.

David Hale will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to start the second game. Hale beat San Francisco on May 23, limiting the Giants to three runs (2 earned) and eight hits over 6 2/3 frames.

Los Angeles rolled in Monday's opener, as Howie Kendrick homered and drove in four runs, and Joc Pederson highlighted a big sixth inning with a three-run homer in an 11-4 win.

Clayton Kershaw (4-3) picked up his first road win of the season thanks to seven effective innings on the hill and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. The left-hander allowed just two runs on five hits and contributed to the offensive onslaught with an RBI single during a six-run sixth frame.

"We had a lot of guys swing the (bat) well tonight," Mattingly said. "It's good to see."

The Rockies had a four-game winning streak stopped in the loss.

Kyle Kendrick (2-7) was charged with six runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits in losing to the Dodgers for the third time this year. He settled down after serving up home runs to Ethier and Rollins in the second inning, but the Dodgers chased the right-hander in the sixth.

"I thought he battled with what he had and got to a point in the game where he put us in pretty good position," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Kendrick.

The Dodgers have won eight of 10 with the Rockies this season.
