Dodgers seek series win over Diamondbacks

Jun 9, 2015 - 2:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to get back on track with a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and the NL West rivals will resume a three-game series Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers dropped three of four meetings with the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend and entered Monday's opener versus Arizona losers in four of the past five contests.

Los Angeles recorded a 9-3 victory and stormed out to a nine-run lead by the fifth inning. Howie Kendrick had an RBI single in the first inning, Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run homer during a five-run fourth and Andre Ethier clubbed a three-run shot in the fifth inning.

Former D-backs hurler Mike Bolsinger moved to 4-0 at Dodger Stadium this season with seven terrific innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out eight.

"I'm locked in. When I throw the baseball everything is coming together," Bolsinger said.

L.A. third baseman Justin Turner left last night's game in the fourth inning with a left knee contusion. He fouled a pitch off his leg.

"It felt the worst when I fouled it off my knee and I walked around a bit, but it got tighter as the game went on," Turner said. "I iced it three times, and I'll take the ice machine home and ice it tonight and see how I feel in the morning. From here it's day-to-day. I can walk around fine now, but it's a little tougher going up and down stairs."

The Dodgers are one game ahead of the San Francisco Giants for the NL West lead and the defending World Series champions were idle Monday. The Giants will visit the New York Mets Tuesday.

Carlos Frias has struggled on the mound of late and looks to bounce back Tuesday for the Dodgers. Frias has lost three of his last four outings and previously toed the rubber in Thursday's 7-1 loss to St. Louis, charged with five runs (3 earned) and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Frias, who lasted seven innings and gave up one unearned run on May 30 at St. Louis, has given up 13 earned runs in his last three trips to the mound. The right-hander is 4-3 in nine games (7 starts) with a 4.25 ERA and defeated Arizona with 5 1/3 scoreless innings of an 8-0 win on May 1.

In two career games (1 start) against the D-backs, Frias is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 7 1/3 innings of work.

The Diamondbacks have lost two in a row after winning four of five games, and didn't get much help from starter Rubby De La Rosa last night. De La Rosa was torched for nine runs and 10 hits in five innings, and gave up the home runs to Rollins and Ethier.

A.J. Pollock drove in two runs with a double in the sixth inning and Jake Lamb stroked an RBI single in the ninth.

"Tonight was probably the one night where Rubby didn't give us a shot," Arizona manager Chip Hale said.

Arizona opened an eight-game road trip on a sour note and will also visit San Francisco and the LA Angels.

The D-backs will hand the ball to Robbie Ray Tuesday and he is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in two starts. The young left-hander made his Arizona debut on May 6 in a 5-1 win at Colorado and tossed six innings of one-run ball. He then posted a no-decision in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the New York Mets and hurled five shutout innings.

Ray is 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA in nine starts with Triple-A Reno.

Los Angeles is 5-2 against Arizona this season.
