Dodgers try to extend series domination with sweep of D-backs

Jun 10, 2015 - 2:23 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have dominated the Arizona Diamondbacks at home in recent meetings and target a three-game sweep of their NL West rivals Wednesday at Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers have won eight in a row at home versus the Diamondbacks and six straight overall in this series. They are 6-2 against Arizona this season.

Los Angeles took Monday's opener of this set by a 9-3 score and followed it with a 3-1 verdict last night. Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 with a home run and a clutch two-run single in the seventh inning, while Yasiel Puig added two hits and a run scored.

Adam Liberatore got the final out of the seventh inning for the win and starter Carlos Frias held the D-backs to a run in 6 2/3 innings. Kenley Jansen picked up his seventh save in the ninth.

"Carlos gave up hits early, I think six hits by the third inning," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "But he settled down, changed speeds and kept them off-balance. He gave up hits but he got the big outs."

The Dodgers, who sit a game ahead of San Francisco for the NL West lead, are 3-3 on a seven-game homestand and will visit San Diego and Texas next.

Brett Anderson draws the start for the Dodgers Wednesday and is 2-4 with a 3.29 earned run average in 11 starts. Anderson is winless (0-3) in his past five appearances and has pitched well in every attempt. In Friday's 2-1 loss to St. Louis, Anderson allowed two runs in 7 2/3 innings and has allowed a pair of runs in three straight starts.

Anderson has only allowed more than two runs three times this season and is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three career starts against the D-backs.

The Diamondbacks have lost three in a row after winning four of five games, and hope to solve their Dodger Stadium woes.

Robbie Ray had a solid outing Tuesday and allowed two runs and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, but was dealt the loss. He allowed Kendrick's home run and struck out three batters with one walk.

"Robbie did a good job," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "He battled. Nice pitch count. They have good hitters over there."

Arizona will visit San Francisco and the LA Angels on this eight-game road trip.

Jeremy Hellickson gets the call for the D-backs Wednesday and looks to extend his personal winning streak to four games. Arizona has won his last four starts and Hellickson made it three wins in a row with six innings of two-run ball in a 7-2 victory over the New York Mets on Friday.

Hellickson has given the bullpen a rest with at least six innings in each of his previous four trips to the hill and is 4-3 with a 4.88 ERA in 11 starts this season.

The right-hander in winless (0-1) with a 7.56 ERA in two career starts against the Dodgers.
