Reds roll into Wrigley Field
Jun 11, 2015 - 2:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cincinnati Reds look to keep rolling when they open a four-game series Thursday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Reds have won four in a row and completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Philadelphia Phillies with Wednesday's 5-2 victory.
Ivan De Jesus sparked a four-run first inning with a three-run homer and Brayan Pena went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Todd Frazier posted two hits and two runs scored for the Reds.
Jon Moscot picked up the win and held the Phils to two runs in six innings, while Aroldis Chapman collected his 12th save in the ninth.
"I was able to just settle in early," Moscot said. "My sinker was effective, I was getting ground balls and [we] played some great defense, made some good plays."
Cincinnati is slated to visit the Detroit Tigers on its quick trip and will send Michael Lorenzen to the mound Thursday. Lorenzen is 1-1 with a 3.29 ERA in eight games (6 starts) and the rookie right-hander has recorded six straight no-decisions. In Saturday's 9-7 loss to San Diego, he allowed three runs in six innings.
Lorenzen has never faced the Cubs.
Chicago is back in the Windy City after going 5-4 on its recent road trip, which culminated with Wednesday's 12-3 beating of the Tigers at Comerica Park.
Miguel Montero and Chris Coghlan both homered and combined for six RBI, five hits and four runs scored. Jake Arrieta benefited from the run support and lasted six innings, charged with three runs and eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
"I would have liked to get a couple more innings in there and do a couple more things," Arrieta said. "It's not how it worked out but it is still a good win for us."
The Cubs have the Cleveland Indians scheduled to visit Wrigley Field and will hand the ball to Tsuyoshi Wada Thursday. Wada is 0-1 with a 4.19 ERA in four starts this season and was roughed up to the tune of five runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 7-5 loss at Washington on Friday.
Wada has faced the Reds once in his career and allowed one unearned run in five innings for a no-decision.
