Rays, Indians continue set at Trop
Jul 1, 2015 - 11:53 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Carrasco goes after his 10th win on Wednesday when the Cleveland Indians continue a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.Carrasco won for the fifth time in seven starts last Wednesday against Detroit, as he allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings. He also struck out seven and improved to 9-6 to go along with a 4.16 ERA.
"He had a real good breaking ball right from the very beginning," Francona said. "And he threw it for strikes, and he threw it a lot. It was working and probably allowed him to get away with a few maybe later."
Carrasco is just 1-3 in five games (4 starts) versus the Rays.
Getting the call for Tampa will be right Alex Colome, who is 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA. Colome is winless in his last seven starts and hasn't tasted victory since beating Oakland back on May 21.
He is 1-0 in two starts versus the Tribe and has yet to allow a run to them in 13 1/3 innings.
On Tuesday, Danny Salazar had a perfect game into the sixth inning and Cleveland gave him support with three home runs in a 6-2 win.
Salazar (7-3) had his perfect game broken up on a leadoff walk by Asdrubal Cabrera in the sixth, then Curt Casali doubled off the wall in left with two outs in the inning to end the no-hit bid. The right-hander allowed two hits and one earned run over 7 2/3 innings.
"He worked behind for a majority of the night but he had a good fastball," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Salazar. "Again, he worked behind in the count but there was a lot of contact. He pitched really well."
Jason Kipnis, Giovanny Urshela and David Murphy backed Salazar with homers as the Indians won their second straight game from the Rays.
Tampa Bay has lost three straight and five of its last six.
"Credit good pitching on their end. Our bats are a little quiet right now," Rays manager Kevin Cash said.
Tampa took two of three from the Tribe last week.
