Harang hopes to get on track against Brewers

Jul 1, 2015 - 2:26 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Harang is one of three pitchers with 10 losses this season and hopes to avoid an 11th Wednesday, when he leads the Philadelphia Phillies into the third contest of a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Harang is 0-7 with a 5.29 earned run average in his last eight starts -- all Philadelphia losses -- and he fell to 4-10 this season in Friday's 5-2 defeat versus Washington in which he gave up five runs (4 earned) in six innings. He has lasted six innings in four straight and 15 of 16 starts this season.

The right-hander hasn't won since May 14 versus Pittsburgh and owns a 6.28 earned run average this season. Harang is 2-5 in eight home starts and 7-6 with a 4.10 ERA in 27 meetings (26 starts) lifetime against Milwaukee.

Pitching at night has been an issue for Harang, who is 2-7 in 11 appearances under the lights.

Kyle Lohse gets the starting nod for the Brewers on Wednesday and he has a 4-9 record with a 6.28 ERA in 16 starts. Lohse was 0-5 with a 6.87 ERA in seven starts before a 10-4 win over Minnesota on Friday, as he gave up four runs in six innings of work.

Lohse is 1-4 in seven starts outside of Miller Park and 5-5 with a 3.23 ERA in 15 career starts against the Phillies.

The Brewers rallied for a 4-3 win Tuesday night after a lengthy rain delay and erased a 3-2 hole in the eighth inning. Aramis Ramirez singled home Ryan Braun with two out and Carlos Gomez, who singled, advanced to third. Gomez then scored when Adam Lind drew a bases-loaded walk.

"It's a win you feel like you snatched from them," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "We just made plays at the end."

Ramirez had three RBI and Braun finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored for the Brewers, who have won three in a row and six of eight games. Neal Cotts got the win in relief and Taylor Jungmann gave up three runs (2 earned) in six innings.

Philadelphia has lost two in a row and five of six games. It has the worst record in the majors at 27-52 and lost control with Ken Giles on the hill in the eighth inning last night.

Braun singled with two out and Gomez followed with a base hit. Ramirez then plated Braun and Gerardo Parra walked to load the bases. Lind had watchful eye at the plate and Gomez trotted home for the deciding run.

Giles was saddled with the loss and starter Cole Hamels gave up two runs in seven innings for the no-decision. Hamels fanned seven and walked one.

"Giles has been pitching amazing, but every once in a while that kind of happens," Hamels said.

It was announced Tuesday that interim skipper Pete Mackanin will serve as manager through the rest of the season. Mackanin took over when former manager Ryne Sandberg resigned from his post last Friday.

The Phillies and Brewers are meeting for the first time this season and are scheduled to play three games at Miller Park in August. Philadelphia had won four in a row in this series before Monday's 7-4 loss.
