Spurs meet Mavericks in possible conference final preview
Apr 15, 2007 - 3:15 PM San Antonio (58-21) at Dallas (65-14) 3:30 pm EDTDALLAS (Ticker) - The Dallas Mavericks have done everything they can to make their postseason lives as accommodating as possible. The San Antonio Spurs would like to continue making life difficult for the Phoenix Suns.
The Spurs continue their quest for the second-best record in the Western Conference as they visit the Mavericks on Sunday.
Dallas has set a franchise record for wins and clinched the league's best record. While the Mavericks have wrapped up home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, San Antonio is still fighting for the No. 2 seed in the West and a home-court edge for the first two rounds, but they would need help from the Suns (61-19) to get it.
Since the All-Star break, the Spurs are a league-best 23-3 while the Mavericks' 21-5 mark is the next-best. San Antonio took the first meeting this season before Dallas won the last two - both at the AT&T Center.
The teams last met on January 5 when the Mavericks recorded a 90-85 win behind 36 points from Dirk Nowitzki.
The Spurs registered a 110-91 victory over the Timberwolves (32-47) on Friday to win their sixth straight game. Manu Ginobili scored 21 points to pace San Antonio, which is attempting to score 100-plus points in five straight games for the first time since accomplishing the feat in seven straight games from March 11 - March 21, 2003.
Dallas lost a 104-89 decision to Utah (49-31) at American Airlines Center on Friday, only their second home loss in the last 30 home contests. Nowitzki led the team with 23 points.
The Mavericks have been resting many starters this week and the Spurs did the same in their most recent game with no player playing more than 26 minutes.
