Hawks resume residency vs. Pistons

Mar 20, 2011 - 3:02 PM (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Hawks resume a six-game homestand this afternoon versus the Detroit Pistons at Philips Arena.

Atlanta is 2-2 so far on the homestand and has dropped two straight and six of its last eight games, including Friday's 106-85 loss to the division-rival Miami Heat in which LeBron James scored 43 points.

Marvin Williams led the Hawks with 15 points off the bench and Damien Wilkins added 14 points for Atlanta, which is 20-14 at home and fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. The Hawks were killed on the boards by a 50-27 margin.

"Any time we take it on the chin like that is tough," Wilkins said. "I was fortunate to go out there and get some minutes, but at the end of the day we lost, and lost in a major way."

Al Horford scored 11 points and Josh Smith was credited with 10 in a losing effort. The Hawks will also host Chicago on the residency.

Detroit will try to put the brakes on a six-game road losing streak this afternoon when it makes a stop in the Peach State.

The Pistons have won two in a row overall since a three-game slide and recorded a 99-95 victory over New York on Friday from The Palace of Auburn Hills. Chris Wilcox's put-back dunk with 51.9 seconds remaining in the game proved to be the difference while Tayshaun Prince had a team-high 16 points.

Wilcox ended with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Pistons, who erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter and got 14 points from Charlie Villanueva.

"I thought in that fourth period being down eight we made some adjustments," said Detroit head coach John Kuester. "Will Bynum did a phenomenal job. In fact, our bench had 54 points. They did a great job of distributing the basketball and making big shots."

The Pistons bench is averaging 38.8 points per game, good enough for fourth in the NBA this season. Detroit is only 7-27 as the visitor. Pistons veteran guard Richard Hamilton did not compete against the Knicks for personal reasons and is listed as probable for Sunday. He's averaging 13.7 ppg and needs 10 three-pointers for 500 in his career.

Atlanta has won two of three meetings with the Pistons this season and is 7-3 in the previous 10 matchups between the two clubs. Detroit is winless in its past five trips to Philips Arena.
