Jazz welcome Mavs to Salt Lake City
Nov 7, 2014 - 3:18 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Utah Jazz will try to build off their last win when they host the Dallas Mavericks Friday night at EnergySolutions Arena. The Jazz just defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Wednesday's 102-100 victory and were led by Gordon Hayward, who buried the game-winning shot at the buzzer and finished with 21 points.
"It was pretty special, especially with the way the crowd was reacting for our team. Great finish," Hayward said.
Derrick Favors also had 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Enes Kanter and Alec Burks scored 18 and 11 points, respectively.
Utah outrebounded Cleveland 41-30 and held a 46-38 advantage in the paint. It shot 50.6 percent from the floor to improve to 2-3 on the season.
After hosting the Mavericks, Utah will hit the road for five games against Detroit, Indiana, Atlanta, New York and Toronto.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks had a three-game winning streak come to an end with Thursday's 108-87 loss at Portland.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 17 points, Monta Ellis had 14 and Chandler Parsons chipped in 11 for Dallas, which made only 36.7 percent from the field and sank just 5-of-23 3-pointers.
"I thought our first half was OK, but the second half was very poor," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said.
The Mavs were outscored by a wide 62-37 margin in the last two quarters. They had gone 12-6 over the last 18 games in Portland coming in.
After their trip to Salt Lake City, the Mavericks will return to Big D for four games versus Miami, Sacramento, Philadelphia and Minnesota.
Dallas defeated Utah on Oct. 30 by a 120-102 score, as Nowitzki and Parsons scored 21 points apiece. They were two of seven players to score in double digits. Favors had 17 points and 11 rebounds in that one for Utah, which has lost six straight and 15 of the last 20 in this series.
The Mavericks have won their last two trips to Salt Lake City.
