Hawks eye 50th win vs. Kings

Mar 9, 2015 - 2:03 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Hawks had a six-game winning streak snapped in the unlikeliest of fashions last time out, but they'll try to get back into the win column on Monday when the Sacramento Kings visit Philips Arena.

The Eastern Conference-leading Hawks were in search of their 50th victory of the season on Friday, but lost to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers, 92-84, in South Philly.

Jeff Teague had 17 points and Dennis Schroder tallied 16 off the bench for the Hawks, who rested Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap, DeMarre Carroll and Pero Antic after a 106-97 win over Cleveland on Friday.

The Hawks trailed by three at the start of the fourth quarter.

Philly's Isaiah Canaan made three from the charity stripe and Nerlens Noel drove through the lane for a layup, giving the 76ers an 87-83 edge with 3:10 to go.

Noel and Kent Bazemore each split a pair of free throws, but Luc Mbah a Moute hit a crucial trey with 1:05 to play to seal the win.

"We were not very good and I thought their defense was really good," said Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer. "They made it difficult and we weren't able to convert. I don't think our passing, our spacing was very sharp or crisp."

The Hawks, who have won four straight as the host, embark on a brutal six-game road trip. They'll play the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Kings, Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Kings know all about long road trips. Sacramento is 1-3 on its current eight-game sojourn, which still has visits in Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington on the horizon.

On Saturday, the Kings lost a heartbreaker, 114-109, in overtime against the Miami Heat.

DeMarcus Cousins posted 27 points and 17 rebounds, but fouled out in the extra session. Rudy Gay also scored 27 points for the Kings, who have lost 13 straight to the Heat in Miami.

The game went to overtime when Gay missed a layup with the right hand and Cousins couldn't convert the putback.

An Andre Miller layup gave the Kings a 104-103 lead with two minutes to play in the overtime, but Chris Andersen made two free throws and Tyler Johnson drained a 3-pointer from the right wing as the shot clock expired for a 108-104 Miami lead.

Dwyane Wade then made six free throws to seal the win.

The Kings led by as many as 16 in the third quarter.

"I thought we played pretty well in the third quarter," said Kings coach George Karl.

The Hawks have won 12 straight versus the Kings and seven straight in Atlanta. The two teams will meet in one week in Sacramento.
