Tyus Jones helps Duke take down UNC

Mar 8, 2015 - 7:41 AM Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Duke didn't need overtime to complete a regular-season sweep of North Carolina on Saturday.

Tyus Jones scored a career-high 24 points, and the third-ranked Blue Devils posted an 84-77 victory over the No. 19 Tar Heels.

Jones added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals for Duke (28-3, 15-3 ACC), which got 20 points from Quinn Cook and 14 from Jahlil Okafor.

The Blue Devils will head into the ACC Tournament on an 11-game winning streak.

Marcus Paige hit five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead the Tar Heels (21-10, 11-7), who have lost five of the last six meetings against their greatest rivals.

A Paige trey put North Carolina up 49-42 with 14:40 to play in the game, but Okafor made a jumper to spark a 14-2 run that gave Duke a 56-51 lead. Cook later nailed a three to cap an 8-0 spurt after the Tar Heels pulled within one for a third time.

"We didn't take care of the ball. We took a couple of quick shots. We weren't complacent or comfortable with our seven-point lead, but we didn't stick to what got us there," Paige said.

Okafor missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 44.3 seconds left and Duke up five, but Joel Berry turned the ball over to Jones on the ensuing North Carolina possession.

Jones was fouled and hit two free throws before Grayson Allen sank four more from the line for Duke.

"I think it was a similar game as the one in Durham where either team is deserving of winning," said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

The Blue Devils raced out to an 18-8 lead, but the Tar Heels rallied to go up six before taking a 33-31 advantage into halftime.
