Oklahoma State takes out No. 20 Baylor
Jan 28, 2015 - 4:21 AM Stillwater, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Phil Forte scored 16 points and Oklahoma State upended 20th-ranked Baylor, 64-53, on Tuesday night.Le'Bryan Nash had 13 points, Tavarius Shine netted 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from 3-point range and Anthony Hickey dished out a career-high 10 assists in the win.
The Cowboys (14-6, 4-4 Big 12) have won seven straight conference home games dating back to last season.
Lester Medford led the Bears (15-5, 3-4) with 13 points and Rico Gathers chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Al Freeman knocked down a jumper with over seven minutes left in the first half to give the Bears a 17-14 lead. Forte followed with a 3-pointer that started a string of nine straight points for the Cowboys.
Medford's basket was Baylor's first field goal in over six minutes late in the half, then Shine made a 3-pointer to put Oklahoma State up 30-21 at the break.
Shine kept up his hot shooting stroke from beyond the arc midway through the second half, hitting a pair of treys around a Hickey jumper to increase the Cowboys' margin to 45-33.
It was then Forte who nailed a momentous shot from deep later in the half. With just over four minutes left, Forte took a feed from Hickey and buried a trey to push Oklahoma State's lead to 54-44. Taurean Prince answered with a triple of his own at the other end, but Hickey found Nash for a layup at 2:45 to keep the hosts firmly in front.
Forte dealt a crushing blow that essentially sealed it when he weaved in and out of the Baylor defense, running the 35-second shot clock down before getting fouled and making two free throws for a 60-51 lead with under a minute left.
