Iowa State holds off Texas

Feb 21, 2015 - 10:43 PM Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Georges Niang and Matt Thomas each scored 17 points in the 14th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones' 85-77 win over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday.

Bryce Dejean-Jones added 16 points for the Cyclones (20-6, 10-4 Big 12), who have recorded four straight 20-win campaigns for the first time in school history. Naz Long and Dustin Hogue contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Kendal Yancy made six 3-pointers en route to 29 points for the Longhorns (17-10, 6-8), who have lost two in a row since a three-game winning streak. Isaiah Taylor tallied 23 points and seven assists.

"It's no time to be feeling sorry for ourselves," said Yancy. "I do feel bad for my teammates because I know how hard we played today. We just have to get out of this losing streak."

Trailing 31-27, Iowa State scored the final eight points of the first half. Monte Morris and Dejean-Jones each tallied four points to give the Cyclones a 35-31 lead at the break.

Hogue opened the second half with a 3-pointer to make it a seven-point contest. But the Longhorns hung around and got within 53-50 on Yancy's trey with 9:03 to play.

Iowa State responded with a 14-5 run to create some distance. The Cyclones made a trio of 3-pointers during the burst that Hogue capped with a layup for a 67-55 edge.

The Cyclones made their foul shots down the stretch to secure the victory.

Iowa State has won three in a row against Texas for the first time since winning in 1983, 1986 and 1987 ... The Cyclones went 12-of-21 from beyond the arc ... Iowa State outscored Texas by a 21-10 margin at the foul line.
