Nevada looks to move closer to school-record win total

Mar 1, 2007 - 3:53 PM No. 9 Nevada (26-2) at Utah St (20-9) 9:05 pm EST

LOGAN, Utah (Ticker) -- With the regular season Western Athletic Conference title already clinched, Nevada can focus on setting a school record for wins.

The ninth-ranked Wolf Pack seek their 10th straight win when they visit Utah State on Thursday.

Nevada (26-2, 13-1 WAC) posted a 95-81 victory over Boise State last Saturday to clinch the WAC's regular season crown for the third straight year. Star forward Nick Fazekas scored 28 points and extended his streak of shooting over 50 percent to 18 games.

A two-time WAC Player of the Year, Fazekas finished 12-of-19 from the field for the Wolf Pack, who are just two wins shy of matching the school record for a single season. The 1945-46 edition went 28-5.

Nevada has a chance to match the program-best win total on Saturday against New Mexico State before the start of the WAC tournament.

Utah State (20-9, 8-6) is in a three-way tie for third place in the conference. After a five-game winning streak, the Aggies hope to avoid their first three-game skid since February 25-March 4, 1999.
