UNLV drops 124 on overmatched Central Arkansas
Dec 29, 2011 - 7:14 AM Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - During a season that has returned UNLV to the national stage, Wednesday's romp looked a lot like the Runnin' Rebels of old.Chace Stanback scored a game-high 29 points, Mike Moser added 18 and five others reached double figures for the Rebels (14-2), who came out hot and continued from start to finish in 63- and 61-point halves, respectively.
UNLV shot 67 percent from the floor and made a staggering 18-of-32 from beyond the arc in the 49-point victory.
"We have a very unselfish basketball team," UNLV head coach Dave Rice said. "Every time we can share the ball, it's a positive for us."
LaQuentin Miles poured in 21 points and Mark Rutledge added 13 for Central Arkansas (5-7), which was overwhelmed from the outset.
Both team started strong, combining by 21 points by the first television timeout not even five minutes in. Central Arkansas held an 11-6 edge at one point, but UNLV scored the next eight and jumped ahead 27-13 on consecutive threes by Moser, who scored 12 of the team's first 27 points.
Stanback drained a three for a 35-21 game nearing the 8 1/2-minute mark, and Moser's slam capped a 14-0 stretch for a 46-21 game with just under 6 1/2 minutes to go. UNLV kept raining threes, as one by Karam Mashour and another by Stanback opened a 61-34 game with under two minutes in the half.
The second half was more of the same.
Stanback, who drained nine treys on the night, made three in a one-minute span, the last making the score 74-43 with under 17 minutes left. The Rebels fittingly reached the 100-point mark on another Stanback triple that opened a 100-59 lead with just under 10 minutes to go.
UNLV opened the bench and cruised to victory from there.
