No. 1 Kentucky routs Tennessee

Feb 1, 2012 - 4:48 AM Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Anthony Davis filled the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, seven blocks and three assists as No. 1 Kentucky extended its NCAA-best home winning streak to 48 with a 69-44 rout of Tennessee.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had 16 points and eight rebounds while Terrence Jones added 11 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats (22-1, 8-0 SEC), who have won 14 straight games. They held the Volunteers to just 28.1 percent shooting from the floor.

"Well, I had one already," Callipari said when asked if Davis was a once in a lifetime player. "I had Marcus Camby, so that's twice in a lifetime now, and I'm hoping for three and four in a lifetime. But he doesn't command the ball. I mean, he's just playing. If you pass him up, he doesn't get mad about it. He rebounds, he blocks shots. Today (he had) three assists, one turn(over). He's a special player."

Renaldo Woolridge scored 17 points to lead Tennessee (10-12, 2-5), which fell to 0-7 in true road games this season.

The Wildcats connected on their first 11 shots from the field, racing out to a commanding 26-8 lead midway through the opening half. Davis netted eight points during Kentucky's blistering start.

"You have to give them credit, they are playing at home in a great atmosphere but I didn't think our stars did a good job of setting the tone early," Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin said of Kentucky hitting its first 11 shots. "We had a couple turnovers, allowed those guys to get post position, allowed them to turn the corner in transition."

Kentucky held its double-digit advantage for the remainder of the opening stanza before taking a 38-25 lead into the locker room. Davis finished the first half with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The 20-point barrier was breached on Davis' jumper as Kentucky took a 57-36 lead with 6:52 left in the game.

Kidd-Gilchrist's jumper gave the Wildcats their largest advantage of 25, 69-44, with 50 seconds remaining.
