Virginia rolls over Wake Forest

Feb 9, 2012 - 4:00 AM Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Mike Scott led a balanced attack with 19 points and five rebounds as the 19th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers dominated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 68-44.

"I knew I made a lot. I didn't know how many I had made," said Scott, who went 9-for-9 from the field. "I was on a little bit and I was going. I tried to just keep being aggressive."

Joe Harris added 11 points for the Cavaliers (19-4, 6-3 ACC), who bounced back from a 58-55 loss at Florida State on Saturday. Jontel Evans, Malcolm Brogdon and Akil Mitchell donated 10 points apiece.

Virginia improved to 15-0 when scoring at least 60 points this season.

Travis McKie ended with 16 points and six rebounds for the Demon Deacons (11-13, 2-8), who had won six in a row against the Cavaliers. C.J. Harris tallied 10 points.

Wake Forest, which was limited to 34.1 percent shooting, lost its fifth straight game.

"First of all Virginia did a great job of executing their offense with great intensity," Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "They made shots and they just kept making shots. That defused our energy. Our players got down on themselves a little bit and it just kept going. When it keeps going like that, it's hard to stop."

The Cavaliers came out of the gates on fire, making 17-of-24 shots from the field in the first half. The home team also made 5-of-6 shots from beyond the arc.

Virginia started the game on a 10-2 run, but Wake Forest kept its composure early on. Carson Desrosiers' jumper cut the gap to four, 15-11, with 12 minutes remaining.

But the Cavaliers kept their distance and were ahead by nine, 28-19, with 3:20 left. The home team then scored the final 12 points of the first half to pull away. Scott tallied five points during the surge, which Evans capped with a layup for a commanding 40-19 margin.

The Cavaliers cruised to victory in the second half.
