No. 9 Gonzaga thumps Washington State

Dec 11, 2014 - 6:14 AM Spokane, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Przemek Karnowski had 22 points and eight rebounds to guide No. 9 Gonzaga in an 81-66 thumping of Washington State on Wednesday.

Kyle Wiltjer had 21 points and six rebounds and Byron Wesley scored 20 points with nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-1), who were coming off an overtime loss at Arizona on Saturday.

Josh Hawkinson scored 18 points with 11 rebounds for the Cougars (4-5), who had defeated Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

Washington State kept things close for the first several minutes, but a pair of layups from Wesley and a free throw by Domantas Sabonis gave Gonzaga a 16-9 lead eight minutes in.

A 12-2 run a bit later in the half gave the Bulldogs a 30-18 advantage, and the team eventually took a 39-29 lead into the first half break.

Wesley hit a layup to start the second half, and Wiltjer followed with a 3- pointer for an early 15-point lead.

A 6-0 run a few minutes later from Gonzaga gave the team a 17-point advantage, and the team held a comfortable margin the rest of the way.

Gonzaga plays at UCLA on Saturday ... Both teams shot well, as Gonzaga went 53.8 percent from the floor and Washington State was 52.1 percent ... Ike Iroegbu and Da Vonte Lacy each gave 14 points for the Cougars ... Gonzaga has won six of the last seven against Washington State, but still trails the series, 98-51.
