No. 9 Gonzaga beats UCLA by 13

Dec 14, 2014 - 5:37 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Wiltjer had 24 points, Byron Wesley scored 20 with nine rebounds and No. 9 Gonzaga shot the lights out and never trailed in an 87-74 win over UCLA on Saturday night.

Przemek Karnowski and Domantas Sabonis added 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs (9-1), who played their third consecutive game against a Pac-12 team.

They beat Washington State by 15 points on Wednesday after falling to Arizona in overtime last Saturday for their first loss of the season.

Bryce Alford had 23 points to lead UCLA (8-3), which had a four-game winning streak snapped. Isaac Hamilton added 18 points, Kevon Looney scored 14 and Norman Powell had 12 in the loss.

Gonzaga shot nearly 59 percent from the field in both halves and finished 9- for-19 on 3-pointers.

Things don't get any easier for the Bruins, who hadn't lost since dropping back-to-back games to Oklahoma and North Carolina in the Bahamas last month.

They face top-ranked Kentucky in Chicago next Saturday.

Wiltjer scored 14 in the first half and knocked down a 3-pointer during a 10-1 run that stretched the Bulldogs' lead from three to 12.

It got as close as six but Gonzaga scored 10 of the final 15 points before the break to build a 38-27 advantage at halftime.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 on Karnowski's layup with 12:51 remaining. A 5-0 flurry later in the half cut UCLA's deficit from 13 to eight with under five minutes to play, but Kevin Pangos responded with a three for Gonzaga and the Bulldogs' lead was never in single digits again.
