Foster's 3 in OT lifts K-State past Sooners

Jan 11, 2015 - 6:44 AM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds left in overtime to lift Kansas State to a 66-63 win over No. 16 Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Foster, who netted the final four points in regulation, including a game-tying jumper with nearly eight seconds left in the second half, got the ball at the top of the arc. He dribbled to his right and rose over Buddy Hield from the right wing for the go-ahead score.

TaShawn Thomas was off the mark on a desperation triple at the other end.

Foster finished with 14 points, while Stephen Hurt added 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Wildcats (9-7, 2-1 Big 12), who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game losing streak.

"That win was big time," Foster said. "Oklahoma is, in my eyes, one of the best teams in the conference. This is a real good win for us, especially being away."

Hield netted 20 of his 31 points in the first half and Thomas supplied 14 points and 11 boards for Oklahoma (11-4, 2-1), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

"I thought they (Kansas State) were quicker to loose balls, more physical on the boards, dictated pretty much the majority of the day, and certainly that's disappointing. We have to play better," OU coach Lon Kruger said.

Thomas hit a pair of free throws for a 55-51 Oklahoma cushion with 2:26 left in regulation. Foster nailed a jumper with 36 ticks to play and after Ryan Spangler missed the front end of a one-and-one, Foster hit another jumper to tie it with eight seconds on the clock.

Jordan Woodard was off the mark on a trey in the waning seconds.

Two Hurt free throws gave the Wildcats a 63-59 advantage with 1:38 remaining in overtime, but Thomas answered with a pair of foul shots and Hield drove in for a layup to knot the tilt with 33 ticks to play, setting up Foster's game- winner.

Earlier, Hield nailed a trio of triples and netted 13 quick points as the game was knotted 15-15 following his layup at the 12:45 mark of the first half.

The Wildcats took a 31-30 edge into the break.

After Hurt's layup staked Kansas State to a 44-36 advantage with 13:13 remaining in regulation, Oklahoma answered with a 10-1 run to take its first lead of the second half. Spangler's steal and layup capped the surge and gave the Sooners a 46-45 edge with 8:14 on the clock.

Game Notes

Kansas State has won four of its last six games at Oklahoma ... The Wildcats had dropped 10 of their last 11 games on the road ... The Sooners fell to 7-1 at home this year ... Hield finished 11-of-20 from the field and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
