No. 7 Arizona downs Stanford

Jan 23, 2015 - 5:02 AM Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanley Johnson had 19 points, Brandon Ashley scored 17 and No. 7 Arizona pulled away in the second half for an 89-82 win over Stanford on Thursday night.

Gabe York added 13 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 12 for the Wildcats (17-2, 5-1 Pac-12), who have won three in a row to share first place in the conference with No. 12 Utah.

Arizona was coming off a 69-51 win over Utah on Saturday.

Chasson Randle scored 26 points to lead Stanford (13-5, 4-2), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Anthony Brown added 18 points and nine rebounds and Stefan Nastic scored 10 in the loss.

Stanford's last lead in the game was 52-51 five minutes into the second half.

Arizona later used a 9-0 run, led by Ashley's four points, to stretch a five- point lead to 14 with 3 1/2 minutes to play.

The Cardinal got as close as six in the final minute, but Arizona did enough at the foul line to hold on.

Arizona shot 55.6 percent from the field in the game and Stanford made half of its 50 shots.

The Wildcats led by as much as nine in the first half on Hollis-Jefferson's layup around 10 1/2 minutes in, but Randle scored nine points in a 17-7 run that gave Stanford the lead.

Later, Johnson's 3-pointer for Arizona tied the score and the Wildcats took a 41-39 lead into halftime.

Arizona has won 10 consecutive games against Stanford and owns a 58-29 lead in the all-time series, which dates to the 1937-38 season ... Arizona plays California on the road Saturday ... Stanford hosts Arizona State on Saturday.
