Johnson, McConnell lead Arizona's rout of Washington

Feb 14, 2015 - 4:13 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanley Johnson scored 20 points and T.J. McConnell posted his first double-double in an Arizona uniform as the seventh- ranked Wildcats traveled to Alaska Airlines Arena and routed Washington, 86-62.

McConnell followed up his season-high 25-point performance in a loss to Arizona State with 10 points, 10 assists and five rebounds as Arizona (21-3, 9-2 Pac-12) bounced back to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson gave Arizona fans a scare when he took a nasty fall on a breakaway late in the first half, but he shook it off and added 17 points and nine rebounds. Gabe York netted 13 points off the bench.

The struggles continued for the Huskies (14-10, 3-9), who shot just 35.2 percent and lost their sixth straight game. The losing streak coincided with the dismissal of star center Robert Upshaw, who was leading the nation in blocked shots when he left the program on Jan. 26 following a violation of team rules.

Washington is 0-5 without Upshaw.

Andrew Andrews tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds in the setback.

Arizona started the game 1-for-6 from the floor and trailed 5-3 just under five minutes in when York's 3 ignited an unprecedented stretch of nine straight field goal attempts without a miss for the Wildcats.

Hollis-Jefferson followed York's triple with a dunk, McConnell drove in for a pair of layups and Elliott Pitts connected from deep to make it 15-9. Two Brandon Ashley layups, a Hollis-Jefferson three-point play and Johnson layup gave the Wildcats a 13-point lead near the midpoint of the first half.

The margin swelled to 20 during Washington's ensuing four-minute scoreless drought.

Washington trailed by 21 early in the second half but never stopped playing. A diving offensive rebound by Andrews led to a Gilles Dierickx dunk, and an 8-0 run moments later had the Huskies within 11.

But out of a timeout, Johnson found Hollis-Jefferson for a slam to ignite a 16-2 spurt that helped Arizona put the game away.

Game Notes

Arizona was without a pair of freshmen, as guard Jackson Parker-Cartwright missed his third straight game with a concussion and center Dusan Ristic didn't make the trip after getting hospitalized with a bacterial infection ... Washington guard Nigel Williams-Goss had seven points, five rebounds and six assists. It was the first time in five games that he didn't play all 40 minutes.
