Sooners come back to beat TCU

Feb 28, 2015 - 11:44 PM Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Buddy Hield scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to help No. 16 Oklahoma come back to beat TCU 67-60 on Saturday.

TaShawn Thomas scored six of his 15 points in a crucial 8-1 surge that gave the Sooners (20-8, 11-5 Big 12) the lead for good. Oklahoma got 10 points apiece from Ryan Spangler and Isaiah Cousins.

The Horned Frogs (17-12, 4-12) scored just nine points in the final 10 minutes as Oklahoma pulled ahead. Kyan Anderson and Trey Zeigler each scored 16 to lead TCU.

With less than seven minutes remaining, Oklahoma found itself down 55-50. Thomas got an assist on Spangler's layup that started the rally that put the Sooners in the lead.

On the ensuing possession, Spangler returned the favor and assisted on Thomas' dunk that he would convert into a three-point play. Thomas scored the next five points for Oklahoma, including a layup at 3:46 that put the Sooners on top for the first time since 7:25 in the first.

"The guys just kept getting me the ball," said Thomas. "They kept telling me to go to work and I just knew there was going to come a time where I needed to step up."

After Oklahoma retook the lead, TCU only went 1-of-5 from the field while the Sooners closed the game at the free-throw line.

"Until the last four minutes, I thought we were in position to win the game," said TCU coach Trent Johnson. "Then they did a good job getting to the free throw line and we didn't."

Hield's layup in the first half put Oklahoma ahead 24-23 in back-and-forth action. However, that would be the Sooners' last field goal in the half.

Zeigler responded immediately with a jumper and started a 13-0 Frogs run that eventually led to a 36-28 lead at halftime. Oklahoma needed four free throws in the final two minutes to end the TCU momentum.
